Commanders In Chief - What Makes Alaska's Different

Well, the mud slinging and the accusations are flying as expected from the left. The predictability about what they would say is beyond simple because they just cannot think before they flap their lips. Yesterday, as I perused the heavy traffic blogs like the Daily Kos and Talking Points Memo, it was as I expected, a bunch of simple-minded people spouting as if they were the elite leaders of the free world and the rest of us were just morons.

The comments on the Talking Points Memo blog were especially silly. One was railing that Sarah Palin was just a small state governor who never even once ordered the National Guard in Alaska to do anything. Had this elitist done just a wee bit of investigating before spewing bunk, he would have recognized that Alaska is quite a bit different than other states for several reasons, not the least of which is its location and strategic value.

Alaska may be the third least populated state but it is one of the most important strategic states because it is the only state that borders more than one foreign nation - Canada and RUSSIA!

Don't dismiss the fact that Sarah Palin is Commander of the Alaska National Guard

Consider these salient points: Alaska is the first line of defense in our missile interceptor defense system. The 49th Missile Defense Battalion of the Alaska National Guard is the unit that protects the entire nation from ballistic missile attacks. It's on permanent active duty, unlike other Guard units.

As governor of Alaska, Palin is briefed on highly classified military issues, homeland security, and counterterrorism. Her exposure to classified material may rival even Biden's and certainly by far exceeds Obama's. She's also the commander in chief of the Alaska State Defense Force (ASDF), a federally recognized militia incorporated into Homeland Security's counterterrorism plans.

Palin is privy to military and intelligence secrets that are vital to the entire country's defense. Given Alaska's proximity to Russia , she may have security clearances we don't even know about. According to the Washington Post, she first met with McCain in February, but nobody ever found out. This is a woman used to keeping secrets.

She can be entrusted with our national security, because she already is.
